Billionaire Plans to Dive to TITANIC Site 1 Year After Fatal OceanGate Accident

Larry Connor, a billionaire real estate mogul from Ohio, reportedly plans to dive to the wreckage of the Titanic in 2026, nearly three years after the fatal implosion of OceanGate’s Titan submersible that killed five people.

Connor has partnered with Triton Submarines to build a $20 million acrylic submersible called the Triton 4000/2 “Abyss Explorer” capable of reaching depths over 13,000 feet, which is deeper than the Titanic debris field at around 12,500 feet.

The goal is to demonstrate that deep-sea exploration can be done safely with proper engineering and certified equipment, in contrast to OceanGate’s experimental carbon fiber Titan sub.

Triton co-founder Patrick Lahey, who will reportedly pilot the sub along with Connor, criticized OceanGate’s lack of safety practices prior to the 2023 tragedy.

Connor, an experienced explorer having visited the Mariana Trench and International Space Station, reportedly hopes to restore public confidence in manned submersible dives.
