Friendly Sea Lion Hops Into UCLA Rowers’ Boat: A Heartwarming Encounter

During an early morning practice in Marina del Rey, UCLA rowers had a delightful surprise when a malnourished sea lion pup jumped into their boat.

The crew affectionately named the pup “Bru” after the UCLA Bruins mascot. Bru snuggled up to a sophomore rower who calmly allowed the pup to relax on the boat.

Capturing the Moment

The team snapped photos of Bru cozied up to the rower. Although Bru didn’t enjoy being petted, the encounter was thoroughly heartwarming. After realizing Bru’s malnourished state, the rowers contacted the Marine Mammal Care Center. Coaches wrapped Bru in towels and safely transported her to shore for rehabilitation.

A Memorable Experience

Despite the unexpected visitor, the rowers reportedly found the experience exciting and cherished the unique interaction with the friendly sea lion.
