[NBC2] Father Charged After Lying About Baby Being Inside Stolen Jeep To Force Investigators To find Vehicle Quicker.
A father has been charged with making a false report to an officer after he told authorities that his 6-month-old son was in the back seat of his stolen Jeep, believing it would force investigators to find the vehicle quicker, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
According to court documents, the father bonded out of jail Friday morning. On Thursday, Gray left his 2018 black Jeep Cherokee Latitude running while he went to grab coffee from inside a gas station in the 22500 block of Imperial Valley around 5:05 a.m., according to authorities.

[FOX] A Texas man who claimed his 6-month-old baby was in the backseat of his stolen vehicle to get a quicker police response is now charged with a crime himself after authorities were scrambling Wednesday to find the child. He is reportedly charged with filing a false report after the child was found unharmed in a relative’s home, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reportedly said. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle with a baby inside around 5 a.m. at a gas station. The father reportedly got out of the Jeep Cherokee and left it running.

[ABC13] The 38-year-old is charged with filing a false report to a peace officer, a misdemeanor charge. He was out on bond for DWI at the time of his arrest, records show. A father accused of lying to police when he said someone stole his Jeep Cherokee with his 6-month-old baby inside has bonded out of jail. Houston police reportedly said he told officers his baby was inside the vehicle to get officers to respond faster. Surveillance video obtained by ABC13 from a gas station on Imperial Valley Drive shows a red Kia drive up next to Gray’s Jeep. Two men then got out of the Kia and jumped into the Jeep and drove off, the video shows.
[KSAT12] The infant, authorities said, was actually never inside the car on Thursday morning. The “male claims he falsified the kidnapping to get a better response to his stolen vehicle,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reportedly said in a Tweet. The father was reportedly charged with falsifying a police report, Gonzalez said. KPRC said he bonded out of the Harris County Jail on Friday morning.
