REPORT: The parents of a woman who was found deceased and in a severe state of neglect, have pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
The woman, who had been diagnosed with autism, was discovered “melted” into a maggot-infested couch, weighing less than 100 pounds and covered in sores, ulcers, and fecal matter.
The coroner’s office determined that her death was caused by sepsis due to prolonged immobility, malnutrition, and severe chronic neglect.
The parents initially faced second-degree murder charges but have now pleaded no contest to the reduced charge of manslaughter.
The prosecution intends to seek a maximum sentence for the couple. The defense attorney stated that the victim’s parents were negligent but never meant to harm their daughter, emphasizing that they “loved her to death” and were “negligent, yes.”
