Killer Of Pro Poker Player Susie ‘Susie Q’ Zhao Sentenced Says He Will Appeal Verdict

[OAKLANDPRESS] The man who brutally raped a former professional poker player suffering from mental illness and then set her on fire, killing her, said he plans to appeal his conviction in Oakland County Circuit Court.

Sentenced Thursday to life in prison for the first-degree murder of Susie “Susie Q” Zhao, Jeffery Morris told the court he had plenty to say about the case but was saving it for the future.

“This time, I’m not gonna say anything,” Morris said when Judge Martha Anderson gave him the opportunity to speak at his sentencing hearing. “There’s a lot I’d like to say. This time I’m not gonna say anything — I’ll wait till I come back for an appeal and begin again.” [FULLSTORY]
