Here’s the Story

In a chilling development, Tanzania has confirmed a new outbreak of the deadly Marburg virus in its northwestern Kagera region. The highly infectious hemorrhagic fever has claimed lives in previous outbreaks and is known for its devastating fatality rate of up to 88%. This marks Tanzania’s second encounter with the virus, following an outbreak in 2023. While only one case has been confirmed so far, authorities are closely monitoring 25 suspected cases as they scramble to contain the disease. With its proximity to Uganda and Rwanda, the outbreak raises fears of cross-border spread, prompting swift action from Tanzanian officials and international health organizations.
