A prominent financial advice columnist was scammed out of $50,000 in an elaborate Amazon scheme.
The saga began with a phone call from a woman claiming to be an Amazon customer service representative, who then connected her with a supposed official investigating fraud at the Federal Trade Commission.
Subsequently, a man claiming to be a CIA agent instructed her to withdraw $50,000 from her bank account and hand it over to an agent who would take it to the Treasury Department.
Despite being a finance expert she fell victim to the scam, emphasizing that anyone could be susceptible.
She shared her story as a cautionary tale, admitting that she ignored red flags and warning signs.
The incident serves as a shocking reminder to be super vigilant and seek help when faced with suspicious situations.
