Air Canada flight to Paris forced to return to Toronto after engine issue
An Air Canada flight from Toronto to Paris experienced an engine issue shortly after takeoff, forcing the plane to return to Toronto Pearson International Airport.
The Boeing 777 aircraft, carrying 389 passengers and 13 crew members, safely landed back at Pearson around 30 minutes after departure.
The engine issue was determined to be a “compressor stall,” where the flow of air to the engine is disrupted, causing fuel to ignite further down and flames to be visible from the aircraft.
Videos circulating online showed flames coming from the plane’s engines during takeoff. The plane was reportedly inspected by airport response vehicles as a precaution before taxiing to the gate on its own power.
The aircraft was taken out of service for further evaluation by maintenance and engineering professionals. Passengers were reportedly accommodated on another flight to Paris later that evening.
