An employee at a poultry processor in Mississippi was tragically killed after being pulled into a chicken deboning machine while cleaning it.
The plant is facing a proposed fine of $212,000 for this incident, as the worker was a contract worker who was not supposed to be cleaning meat-processing machines.
This was reportedly the second worker fatality at the facility in a little over two years. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has reportedly cited the plant for unsafe working conditions in the past, including a previous fatal accident.
The death has led to an investigation and the proposed $212,000 fine for the plant. The tragic event has also raised questions about the plant’s compliance with safety regulations and the protection of its workers.
