Seattle Area Homeowner FORCED to Live in Van as Tenant Rents House on Airbnb!

A Seattle homeowner has been forced to live in his van while his tenant, who owes him over $30,000 in unpaid rent and utilities, illegally lists his house on Airbnb for short-term rentals.

The tenant stopped paying rent after the first month but continued listing the basement unit on Airbnb for around $150 per night, generating thousands in income while the displaced homeowner covers the mortgage and utility costs.

Despite trying to negotiate payment plans, the homeowner has been unable to evict the ‘tenant’  due to a severe court backlog in King County. He was recently granted a court hearing, but it was postponed forcing him to live in his van for at least while paying the mortgage on the house he cannot access.

The city has deemed the Airbnb listing invalid since Hunter does not own the property.
