Six New York City residents were arrested and charged with smuggling goose and duck intestines from China, disguising them in various ways to avoid detection.
The illegal contraband was hidden in crates labeled as “pet nail clippers” and concealed under packaged rattlesnakes.
These sought-after delicacies were destined for New York City shops and restaurants, violating federal rules on food imports.
The defendants trafficked not only in raw goose and duck intestines but also in “duck-blood products from unapproved establishments in China.”
The investigation revealed significant quantities of these intestines being smuggled, with one instance involving about 3,000 pounds of intestines.
