REPORT: REALITY CHECK IN AISLE 9!

Walmart is not reportedlt charging customers $98 a year for self-checkout as rumored.

The $98 fee mentioned is actually reportedly for Walmart’s membership subscription service, Walmart+, which costs $12.95 per month or $98 annually.

This subscription is required for shoppers to use the self-scan feature, known as “Mobile scan & go,” allowing customers to shop and check out with their phones in-store.

While some stores have limited self-checkout access to Walmart+ subscribers or Spark delivery drivers, the $98 fee is not specifically for self-checkout but for the membership service.

The change in self-checkout availability is managed by store managers, not a corporate decision.
