Glow-in-the-dark Firefly Petunias, created through genetic modification, are now available for preorder at $29, with shipments expected to begin in April.

These bioluminescent petunias emit a soft glow similar to moonlight and can be grown in pots, baskets, or gardens, reaching a height of about 8 to 10 inches with abundant white flowers.

The plants are easy to care for and do not require special conditions or treatments. They were developed by a team of scientists, including Karen Sarkisyan, a synthetic biologist at Imperial College London, and are being sold by Light Bio, a synthetic biology startup.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has evaluated the genetically modified Firefly Petunia and found no increased pest risk, so it is not subject to regulation.

The plants are only available for preorder and can be shipped anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States.
