Blue dragons, also known as Glaucus atlanticus, are washing up on Texas beaches, particularly in Corpus Christi.
These creatures are known for their striking blue color and small size, about the size of a grape.
Despite their appealing appearance, they are venomous and can deliver a painful sting.
Blue dragons feed on Portuguese man-o’-wars, ingesting and concentrating their prey’s stinging cells to make their own sting more potent.
Symptoms of a sting can include nausea, vomiting, severe pain, redness, and in rare cases, can be fatal.
Experts advise against touching these creatures and recommend seeking medical treatment if stung. It’s happened before.
