Spain has reportedly banned Worldcoin, a project by Sam Altman, for up to three months due to perceived privacy risks associated with the venture’s iris-scanning technology that offers a digital ID and free cryptocurrency.
The Spanish data protection regulator demanded that Worldcoin cease the collection of personal information and stop using data already gathered.
This action was prompted by complaints about insufficient information, data collection from minors, and issues with consent withdrawal.
Despite more than 4 million people signing up globally for iris scanning, the project has faced criticism from privacy advocates in various countries.
