An Army officer returned from duty to find a squatter living in her DeKalb County home in Georgia.
Despite presenting a fake lease, the squatter refused to leave the property.
The officer, who was serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, initially faced challenges evicting the squatter, as the police considered it a “civil matter.”
However, she eventually used an obscure landlord-tenant law to convince the county police to assist.
The squatter was arrested after police found guns and drugs at the home.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the squatter vacated the residence without incident, but a weapon and drugs were found on the suspect before he left the premises.
The ordeal led to a potential home buyer pulling out of a deal, causing the home owner to terminate the sale contract.
She expressed frustration at the situation, stating, “It’s kind of unjust to find out that someone can literally move into your home with a fictitious lease with a company that doesn’t exist”.
