A man who was pointing a gun at drivers on Interstate 64 in Newport News was arrested by police after a chase on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Virginia State Police, the man was driving a silver Toyota Corolla on I-64 eastbound near J. Clyde Morris Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. when he started pointing a gun at other drivers.
A trooper spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver refused to pull over and continued eastbound on I-64.
The trooper pursued the vehicle until it exited at Jefferson Avenue and ran a red light, hitting another vehicle.
The driver then got out of the car and ran away on foot, still holding the gun.
The trooper chased him and caught him near a shopping center.
The man faces several charges, including reckless driving, eluding police, hit and run, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and brandishing a firearm.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
