The Baltimore Ravens were unable to reach a contract extension with Lamar Jackson by Friday, his Week 1 deadline, the team's General Manager Eric DeCosta said. "Despite best efforts on both sides, we were unable to reach a contract extension with Lamar Jackson," DeCosta said in a statement. "We greatly appreciate how he has handled this process and we are excited about our team with Lamar leading the way. We will continue to work towards a long-term contract after the season, but for now we are looking forward to a successful 2022 campaign."
[MSN] Earlier in the week, ahead of the Ravens’ season-opening matchup against the Jets, Jackson told reporters that Friday would be the deadline for an extension to occur before shutting down talks to focus on the season ahead. DeCosta’s statement confirmed there will be no extension until at least after the upcoming season. Jackson has not signaled any intention to hold-out, as other notable stars have done, as he waits for an extension, and instead has shown up to training camp and workouts throughout the preseason with the intention of playing for the Ravens in 2022.
